One question that new users often have is why do they see a “3D content has been disabled” warning message when opening a 3D PDF file in Adobe Acrobat Reader?

Back in October of 2015, Adobe changed their default behavior when activating 3D content in a PDF file. Users are now required to respond to a prompt when activating a 3D scene. Fortunately, they also provided a Preference setting to control this behavior.

Enable playing of 3D content in one PDF

The first time that you open a PDF with 3D content, you will see a yellow bar at the top with the message:

Trust-this-document

To enable 3D content in the current document:

Click the Options button and then select an appropriate option:

  • Trust this document one time only
  • Trust this document always

We recommend that if you use 3D PDF, you permanently enable 3D content. To enable 3D content permanently:

  • Go to Edit > Preferences > 3D & Multimedia and then select the Enable playing 3D contentcheckbox.
